Advanced Teacher Training Complete |

We were pleased to have so many enthusiastic teachers present for the final training session held on the 13th August 2008 at Oranjekloof Primary. They were all presented with their training material.
Teachers receiving their Ka-Ching! School's Programmes
Midge Hilton-Green, the recently retired Bishops Preparatory School headmaster, was also present to explain the workings of the new Ka-Ching! Traders programme. He developed this school's company trading programme while headmaster at Kingswood Prep in the 1980's. It was this course that was instrumental in the South African Department of Education's decision to introduce Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) into the curriculum. It has been used successfully on many young entrepreneurs in his schools since then.

We look forward to working with the Sentinel Primary children, families and the leaders of the school.

Without the passion of the extraordinary teachers from the Hout Bay schools, and the support of the Ackerman Pick 'n Pay Foundation, this project would never have got off the ground.

We look forward to the exciting time ahead and thank all the teachers for their passion and enthusiasm.

Teacher Training Storming Ahead |

It has been tremendously exciting to finally get this project started!
The teacher training is in full swing! We have had 28 teachers attend the introductory session and advanced session. This should mean we will reach at least 1,000 learners. The initial training for a small group was first held on 22 July at Sentinel Primary under the enthusiastic eyes of their supportive teachers represented by Mr Ashley Cupido. The other teachers present were Mr Nathan Levendal, HOD Kronendal Primary and Mr Stephen Chinyama EMS teacher extraordinaire from the International School.
A day later we conducted the introductory session to a group of 19 teachers from Oranjekloof Primary. Thanks very much to Mrs Charlotte Samuels who has been a huge help in getting everyone together and helping us distribute over a thousand letters to the parents.
The final teacher training will be held at 2pm on 13th August at Oranjekloof Primary.
At this session Midge will be explaining the Schools Company Trading Programme that was so successfully used at Kingswood Prep in Grahamstown. This programme is for grades 7, 8 and 9 and qualifies each learner with a Gold Level certificate.

Oranjekloof Primary Taking The Lead |
|
|

|
I had a tremendous meeting on Tuesday 10 June with Charlotte and Pumla from Oranjekloof Primary in Hout Bay. The headmistress, Ms Davis, wanted to be a part of the meeting but at the last minute had to organise a new teacher as her stand-in teacher wasn't able to take a class! Just a glimpse of the challenges Oranjekloof faces on a daily basis.
Anyway our meeting went really well. We are on track with the official launch date of 1 August 2008 looming. There is plenty to do before then, but we are in good shape!
I also met with Llandudno Primary, and their EMS teacher Peter Pienaar has a shared passion for entrepreneurship education. We are hoping they will come on board and add the much needed cross-over of learning between the more and less affluent schools.
Final preparation meetings are taking place with Sentinel Primary and The International School on Friday.
Will be in touch with more news shortly!
Regards,
Greg

Additional Entrepreneurship Material |
|
|
|
|
We need to meet with all the Hout Bay Schools really soon to plan the implementation. I will be phoning you in the near future to set up an appointment. In the meantime some news.
We are busy putting the finishing touches to some additional material that will enhance the practical business learning experience. This material will make business education come alive in the school environment. It will also add the much needed media angle to the project. I am extremely excited with this product. It also fits in very well and enhances the Ka-Ching! School's Programme.
Just a reminder, the Ka-Ching! School's Programme will be made available to the following schools as part of the Ackerman Pick 'n Pay Foundation funding:
- Sentinel Primary
- Hout Bay High
- Oranjekloof Primary
The following Schools will be requested to contribute something towards the cost:
- Kronendal Primary
- Llundudno Primary
- International School Hout Bay
- Ambleside

Ackerman Pick 'n Pay Foundation Sponsorship |
|
|
|
|
We have some very positive news. At the presentation on 21 February, I mentioned we were hoping to get confirmation from potential sponsors for the Hout Bay project.
Well the news is that the Ackerman Pick 'n Pay Foundation have agreed to sponsor 420 deserving families with their own copy of the Ka-Ching! Business Parenting Course. We all must be extremely grateful for this. Thank you!
I think we all agree, that there should be some financial commitment from the families - a hand-up rather than a hand-out. So the proposal is for each family to pay R200 towards the cost of the Ka-Ching! Business Parenting course. This is a discount of about 85%.
The Ackerman Foundation sponsorship goes further and sponsors schools. As I am sure you will appreciate, their Foundation has strict guidelines as to who receives the funding. As mentioned, we would like all the Hout Bay schools to be involved.
So this is how we propose it works. The Ka-Ching! School's Programme will be made available to the following schools as part of the Ackerman Pick 'n Pay Foundation funding:
- Oranjekloof Primary
- Sentinel Primary
- Hout Bay High
The following Schools will be requested to contribute something towards the cost:
- Kronendal Primary
- Llundudno Primary
- International School Hout Bay
- Ambleside
